Adhesive dressings for Burns

Your burn has been covered with a sticky bandage called "hypofix" or "fixomull."

This dressing protects the skin but lets the skin breathe while it heals. We think it is the most comfortable and convenient burns dressing for you.

The dressing can remain undisturbed for 2 or 3 weeks while you heal.

You may shower with the bandage on.

Fluid from the burn sometimes seeps out and forms a yellowish crust on the outside of the bandage. This can be removed by gently washing with pure soap and water.

Do not soak in the bath with the bandage on.

Removing the dressing

The bandage needs to be soaked in oil for half an hour before it is removed. You can use clean cooking oil, which works well and is usually cheapest and easiest. Baby oil, peanut oil, olive oil, vegetable oil will all work equally well.

Don't pull the bandage off without oiling it first because this can damage the new skin.

Soak the dressing in oil, cover it with plastic wrap such as "glad-wrap" and leave it for half an hour. It will then peel off easily.
