'A unit'

1 Unit Whole Blood 450ml provides:

 

1 unit packed cells

 ~ 280ml

1 unit FFP
(which provides 1unit cryoprecipitate)

 ~ 220ml
~ 15ml

1 unit platelets

 ~ 60ml

* Prothrombinex is a freeze-dried concentrated blood product

 

International units' and coagulation factors

1 IU coagulation factor per ml plasma

50 ml plasma/kg body weight
50 IU coagulation factors/kg body weight

'Factor activity'

In normal individual there is 100% factor activity (< 30% = clinical bleeding)

50 IU coagulation factors/kg body weight for 100% factor activity
