Deciduous teeth (primary dentition) erupt between 6 months and 2 years

• 2 incisors
• 1 canine in each half jaw
• 2 molars

Permanent teeth (32 in total) erupt first in lower jaw

• 2 incisors
• 1 canine
• 2 premolar (in each half jaw)
• 3 molar

NB: 1st molar erupts before any deciduous teeth shed.

Pulp

• neurovascular supply
• lays down dentin

Dentin

• microporous structure
• surrounds pulp
• never normally uncovered

Enamel

• covers coronal part of tooth

Cementum

• covers root part of tooth (in gum)
  softer than enamel
